| A standard bolt-on swim platform extension gives the new 20’8” Glastron GT 205 an instant advantage in the crowded midrange runabout market, where we are always looking for that perfect combination of features and price. Available for less than $20,000 with the base 135-hp engine and a trailer, this new bowrider is the largest of three GT models that slot above the entry-level MX line but below the deluxe GXL runabouts in the 2007 Glastron line.
Typically a $1,000 option, the 1’4”-deep platform helps keep swimmers away from the outdrive, provides room for lashing down bulky towables, and muffles exhaust noise.
In the cockpit there’s almost 2’ of open space between the aft bench seat and the buckets at the helm, so everyone can stretch out. Access to the area underneath the aft seat is open from the cockpit. You simply slide items into place rather than lifting the bottom cushions.
A new soft-touch dash cap fits over a full set of instruments at the helm and deep glovebox in the port console. A stainless-steel drinkholder is installed on each console, and a foot brace is molded into the sole. The stereo is tucked away in the glovebox.
The bow area measures about 4’-by-5’ with finished stowage below the outboard seat cushions. The cushion in the peak lifts out to uncover a step for boarding.
The closed-mold VEC construction process forms the hull and stringer grid as a single unit and creates a smooth-and-clean surface in the bilge and below the engine. The one-piece fiberglass deck is created in a traditional open mold, bonded to the stringers and secured to the hull with screws that bite into the slightly elastic VEC material.
This boat maintains the Glastron performance personality. It planes with minimal bow lift, and the hull produces a lot of lift at speed, so the GT 205 feels light and sporty underway.
